Gotong Royong pronounced “go-tong ro-yong” is Indonesia's traditional system of mutual cooperation that existed hundred of years ago usually between family members or neighbors in a village. People work together as volunteers with the elements of solidarity and trust to each other.
Embedded in Gotong Royong is the “true village or neighborly spirit”, a typical character of the Indonesian people, dividing and sharing tasks together in achieving a goal with the basic familial relationship and friendship. Today, this practice is still widely spread and adapted not only in the villages but also in the modern day cities.
This theme has been chosen as it is closely-related and in line with the CISV spirit and fundamental principle that we are global dedicated volunteers who believe that peace is possible to be achieved through friendship.
