Australia: in harmony with the ocean
Australia: In harmony with the ocean

Mascot
The Australian Pavilion mascot is the fairy penguin, Alpy. The name “ALPY” means Australian Little Penguin in Yeosu. Alpy is from Phillip Island, a small island not far from the city of Melbourne.
Like most fairy penguins, Alpy has a chatty social nature, loving nothing better than hanging out at the beach with his friends. Alpy lives on Phillip Island and is looking forward to taking part in his first ever Penguin Parade in the Australian springtime. After a whole day’s swimming, Alpy and 26,000 of his friends will head back home at dusk, surfing their way onto the beach and home to their burrows.
Alpy wants to be a marine conservationist and help to protect and preserve the ecosystems in our oceans and seas.
You can meet Alpy at the Yeosu Expo 2012 when he comes out to say hello to visitors to the Australian pavilion.
If you are in Yeosu for the Expo in 2012 and you see Alpy be sure to say “G’day!

The Malaysia Pavilion logo

Main theme:
Malaysia's Biodiversity Haven: A gift from Nature

Branding sub-theme:
"A Sea Of Life, A Harmony Of Living."
  • "A Sea Of Life" addresses directly Malaysia's environmental focus. This phrase immediately and unmistakably conveys the idea of "abundance" – thanks to the immense biodiversity found in our rich waters, our sea is truly full of life.

  • "A Harmony Of Living" aptly reflects the core essence of the nation that is Malaysia. We are an outstanding model of multicultural and multiracial harmony for the world and, in this light, our focus is very much on the harmonious connection of our environment and our people.

Logo/Mascot

The Malaysia Pavilion logo employs two main elements – a stylised, 2-tone wave and a most adorable icon, the mudskipper.

The wave gives us immediately our "ocean" feel and is deliberately stylised to transition from blue to green, symbolising our harmonious connection between sea and land as well as the very flow of our Pavilion from sea to land. It also flows and folds like a scarf would, alluding to the batik material Malaysia is so well known for. Our Pavilion theme is also created to flow like a wave, transitioning via coloured alphabets from sea to land.

Our choice of Mudskipper is equally deliberate – an amphibious fish, the mudskipper is a creature that calls both the sea and the land its habitat. This duality makes it a most suitable symbol for our Pavilion's own sea-land duality. Given a "caricature-style" treatment, our mudskipper is transformed into a truly cute and appealing mascot, enhanced further by multi-coloured batik motifs.
